About Southdown Australia and Membership

Southdown Australia exists to encourage the breeding and use of high quality registered Southdown Sheep and their genetics in Australia

Incorporation

Southdown Australia Incorporated is a not-for-profit incorporated association registered on 25 July 1995.

Statement of Purposes

The purposes of the association are
  • To encourage Southdown breeders to work co-operatively to further the overall interests of the breed
  • To encourage the breeding and improvement of Southdown sheep and genetics throughout Australia and the maintenance of quality and type
  • To promote and encourage the use of Southdown sheep and genetics from registered studs
  • To represent the interests of the Southdown breed and genetics to other industry organisations and government.

Membership

Southdown Australia offers two levels of membership in addition to Honorary Life Membership. See the membership application form below.

Full Membership is limited to one owner over the age of 15 years from each Southdown flock registered in the Flock Book of the Australian Stud Sheep Breeders Association Limited (ASSBA). Full Membership cannot be transferred. Full Members have the right to:
  • receive minutes and notices for meetings and proposed special resolutions in accordance with the Model Rules
  • attend and be heard at General Meetings
  • vote at General Meetings (subject to conditions in Model Rules)
  • hold office bearer and committee positions
  • submit items of business for consideration at a General Meeting
  • have contact details listed for their Southdown stud on the Association’s website
  • submit advertisements and news items relating to Southdowns for the Association’s website and social media pages
  • participate in Southdown promotional activities run by Southdown Australia
  • use the Southdown Australia logo on promotional materials subject to permission from the Southdown Australia Committee
  • participate in Southdown Australia social and educational activities.
Honorary Life Membership may be offered at the discretion of the Committee in recognition of outstanding and exceptional service to the Association. Life Members have the right to the same benefits as Full Members including the right to vote at meetings.

Associate Membership is available to people who support the purposes of Southdown Australia but are not entitled to be Full Members. For example, additional people associated with a registered stud may be Associate Members. Associate Members must not vote unless they hold the proxy for a Full Member. Associate Members have the right to:
  • receive minutes and notices for meetings and proposed special resolutions in accordance with the Model Rules
  • attend and be heard at General Meetings
  • submit items of business for consideration at a General Meeting
  • participate in Southdown Australia social and educational activities.

Membership fees are reviewed annually and renewal payments are due by 30 June.

    Application for membership

    One person from each registered Southdown stud can hold Full Membership

    For Full Membership application only:
    Provide name and contact details for your stud to be shown on Southdown Australia website. Can include link to your own website.

    Payment
    Membership applications cannot be processed until payment has been received.
