8th November 2012~ FAIRBANK ANNUAL SALE (FH Badcock & Son) ~ Hagley Tasmania
Fairbank achieved a complete clearance of all animals at the 2012 on property sale. This year for the first time Fairbank offered 17 one year old ewes. These achieved a top of $1,500 and averaged $947. Top price of $1,500 went to Tom and Phoebe Bull, NSW for a daughter of Fairbank 10643 and took home 5 ewes in total. Other volume buyers were David and Julie Underwood, NSW who purchased 7 to $1,250, and Simon and Kate Thomas Silk Southdowns, Vic taking home 3. In the ram section a complete clearance of all 37 rams offered saw a top of $5,800 and averaged $1,395. Top price also went to Tom and Phoebe Bull for Fairbank 11634 who was second in the Meat Yield Class at the Geelong National. The ram was sired by Clifton Downs 225/06 and had very good balanced Lambplan EBV's. Pat Denholm Gower Stud, NSW secured Fairbank 11628 for $3,500. This ram was sired by Merrydowns 681/08 and was 1st at the Bendigo ASBA. David and Julie Underwood secured Fairbank 11643 to compliment their ewe purchases. This ram was also by the Merrydowns sire and was second in the August drop class at the Geelong National. Max Badcock, Tas secured Fairbank 11582 for $2,000 also by the Merrydowns sire. The rams were even and presented extremely well with the overall sale average stronger than the previous year for the slightly larger offering.

November 2011~ FAIRBANK (FH Badcock & Son) ~ Hagley Tasmania
33 rams sold for a complete clearance to a top of $2,400 and averaged $1,097. The top priced ram was sold to Simon Thomas of Silk Southdowns,Cavendish Victoria. The ram which was lot 3 was the winner of the August drop ram class and Innaugural Coles class at the Royal Geelong National Southdown Show. He was sired by Fairbank 08/543 and had an outstanding eye muscle EBV 0f 2.4 placing him in the top 3% for terminal sires across all breeds. A second stud ram was sold to Stuart Davies Mollyogi stud, Ellendale Tasmania for $2,000 and selected from Lot 8. He too was sired by Fairbank 08/543 and had very good balanced Lambplan EBV's. The line up of rams was very even and the average price was slightly up on last year for the increased offering of rams.
November 2011 ~ MACCELSLIE PARK ( K & S Baker) ~ Sorell Tasmania
5 rams sold for a complete clearance to a top of $1,850 and averaged $1,300. The top price ram sold to G & M Skeggs Stormlea Stud, Nubeena Tasmania. There was a quality line up of rams with a healthy increase on average price from the previous year.
19 October 2011 ~ YENTRAC ANNUAL SALE (R&L McCartney) ~ Burrumbeet, Victoria
On offer was 4 special Southdown Rams and 18 Flock Rams all of sound quality which attracted buyers from across the state. The Top Price Ram was sold for $3000 and was purchased by Bill & Scott Kinnealy, Springfield Stud, Penhurst. This Ram was Lot 67, Tag No 280, Index 681. The sire of this Ram was Fairbank 538/08 and the dam was Yentrac 260/05. Fellow Southdown Australia member Graeme Hooper, Clear Hills Stud, Goorambat bought his first Yentrac Ram at the sale for $2250. This Ram was Lot 70, Tag No 250, Index 945. The sire of this Ram was Yentrac 281/04 and the dam was Yentrac 266/07. The Special Southdown Rams averaged $2000, while the Flock Rams averaged $1300. This year’s impressive prices were higher than the previous year. The sale resulted in a 100% clearance. Congratulations to Rob, Lyn & Allan McCartney.
14 May 2010 ~ SOUTHERN PASTURES DISPERSAL SALE (G&N Baker) ~ Simpson, Victoria
With a large crowd of Southdown breeders, it was joint agents Elders and Landmark’s task to register the 62 buyers. There were 6 stud Southdown sires sold for up to $3750, on average $2167, with seven 2009 drop rams averaging $1571, the top pricing reaching $4000. 173 joined Southdown stud ewes sold for an average $1071 and 55 unjoined Southdown stud ewes sold for an average $518.18. There was only two rams passed in, making it a very impressive sale on average and clearance. The sheep were sold to breeders in Tasmania, Western Australia, New South Wales, and Victoria. Ross Cowley, a close friend and neighbour of the Baker family, paid the top price of $3500 for a 2009 drop ewe lamb and $4000 for a ram lamb. Graeme Dehnert (Fernhill Stud, Ballan) purchased a total of 54 sheep from the sale, paying $2600 each for two 2006 drop ewes and $3750 for a stud sire. The success of the sale was a fitting tribute for the effort that Geoff had put into the Southdown bred and it will allow Geoff’s legacy to remain alive.
20 October 2010 ~ YENTRAC ANNUAL SALE (R&L McCartney) ~ Burrumbeet, Victoria
On offer was 4 special Southdown Rams and 15 Flock Rams all of great quality. With a nice crowd gathered for the sale, Elders registered 32 buyers. The Top Price Ram brought $1450 purchased by Tim Fincham. The Ram was Lot 70, Tag No 236, Index 873. This Ram was 2nd in the Pair of Ram classes at Bendigo Sheep Show 2010, the sire of this Ram was Clear Hills 2/05 and the dam was Yentrac 222/03. The 4 Special Southdown Rams averaged $1075, while the 15 Flock Rams averaged $855. The sale resulted in a 100% clearance. Congratulations to Rob and Allan McCartney.
11 November 2010 ~ FAIRBANK ANNUAL SALE (F.H. Badcock & Son) ~ Hagley, Tasmania
21of the finest Tasmanian Southdown rams were on up for sale from two respectable studs . Fairbank Southdown Stud offered 15 of those rams and had a complete clearance. On average the rams went for an impressive $1040 with the top price ram being bought by RG Comas “Point Vale” for $1500. Maccelslie Park had similar success with the 100% clearance of the 6 Southdown Rams they offered. Their top price ram was also sold for $1500, purchased by Kirkdale Southdowns. This made the average sale price $920 for their Southdown Rams. A fantastic effort by these two studs, congratulations to them both.
26 November 2010 ~ CHANDPARA PRODUCTION SALE (A Sellars-Jones) ~ Tylden, Victoria
With an impressive 36 Southdown Rams and 14 Southdown Ewes, the sale was going to be BIG! Landmark Dwyer were in charge of the sale proceedings. On average the Rams sold for $1038 with a clearance rate of 95% (two passed in). The top price ram fetched $3100 and was purchased by Lyn Vearing of Hendon Park Stud. The Ram was Lot 14, Tag No 100, Index 1075. Sired by Willowhaugh U175/03 (AI from NZ) and the dam Chandpara 52/06. This Ram was awarded Champion Southdown Ram at the Australian Sheep and Wool Show 2010. The top priced Southdown Ewe reached $650 and was purchased by Graeme Dehnert of Fernhill Stud. She too was sire by AI from NZ, Holly Farm P77/07 and the dam Chandpara 49/06. This Ewe was awarded 1st prize at the Australian Sheep & Wool Show 2010. The remaining ewes averaged $520 with two ewes being passed in. Congratulations go to Andrew on his success.
