PICTURE: 03380 and 03388 Champion Southdown ewe and ram at Hobart and Launceston Shows 2004.
FAIRBANK Southdowns commenced in 1922 by Frank Badcock and son Vern; Frank (the 2nd) and son Chris now conduct the stud that is now one of the oldest in Australia.
Many Champions were exhibited at the Tasmanian shows and Melbourne Royal during the 1920's and 1930's. During the 1930's and 1940's extensive use was made of imported English rams and their direct progeny. Showing was curtailed somewhat in the 1950's but we have been successful again since 1964 including champions at Perth, Melbourne, Launceston and Hobart Royal Shows.
Numerous Stud Sires were imported from N.Z during the 1970's and 1980's mostly from the famous Punchbowl and Gatton Park Studs these rams contributed tremendous length to the flock.
Current Sires are Fairbank 03388 (Champion Launceston and Hobart Royal), Bellfield 00079 (N.Z, A.I) and Highbank 01001 (Twice Champion Melbourne Royal, A.I)
The stud is O.B accredited free, vaccinated against OJD and has seven credits on A.H.S. Approximately 60 ewes will be joined in 2006.
